Dr. Strange

Dr. Strange (1978)

Dr. Strange 1978 pilot TV movieMarvel’s Sorcerer Supreme gets a television pilot to lead off into his own ongoing series. Ooops nope, no series. So fans are just left with the pilot.

By 1978 superheroes began popping up all over the tube. The Hulk, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman were all seeing different degrees of success with television audiences. So CBS proposed the idea of adding another character to the primetime lineup with Dr. Strange.

The series would ultimately never happen, but the 90-minute television pilot would give fans what they might have been robbed from seeing….or saved depending on your point of view.

The pilot recounts how Dr. Stephen Strange (Peter Hooten) is introduced to the weird world that he’s destined for. The Sorcerer Supreme contacts Dr. Strange and informs him he is the heir to defend us all against evil magic. Naturally Strange needs some convincing, but soon he is battling the evil Morgan LeFay and doing anything in his power to save the innocent girl he’s fallen for.

Also starring John Millis, Clyde Kusatsu, Anne-Marie Martin and Jessica Walter, I take a look at one of the more obscure additions in the superhero film genre.
