James Bond Falls Into the Hands of Amazon MGM Studios

Amazon MGM Studios are now in creative control of James Bond.
There hasn’t been much James Bond news for quite awhile. Things have been awfully quiet since 2021’s No Time To Die. Bond fans have moved on from watching the onscreen demise of 007, have bid adieu to Daniel Craig from the role and were looking ahead, waiting for Eon Films to announce some progress on Bond 26 and the future.
Except, nothing happened.
It was only until February 20, 2025, when Eon announced that Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were stepping back and giving creative control over James Bond to Amazon MGM Studios.
How big of news is this? Huge! Bond has been ‘a family owned’ property and the Broccoli’s were the caretakers. They made all the creative decisions involving Bond. This went back to Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman’s first Bond film 1962’s Dr. No. Creating Eon Films, they were the gatekeepers of James Bond. Since then the power was passed down to Broccoli’s daughter Barbara and step-son Michael.
Eon Films grip on 007 remained firmly in place even when Amazon purchased MGM. Eon and Amazon would have to work together and all decision involving Bond ‘content’ would need to be approved by Eon. Unfortunately it was a bumpy relationship, with Eon resisting Amazon’s ideas of potential 007 projects. Which is why there has basically been no Bond news for so long.
That ended when Amazon finally ponied up a billion dollars to Broccoli and Wilson in exchange of the creative control of James Bond. Amazon MGM Studios can now be off and running with whatever films, shows or any kind of content they want to create with 007 – and Eon will sit back and watch.
This is monumental news in the history of the Bond franchise. Essentially, the Eon era of Bond is over and a new one is about to begin. Wilson said in a statement, “Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.” What will that future be? Bright? Dark? We’ll have to wait to see.

They surely can get a lot of attention from users and the press by putting out these polls. Everyone has their opinion and will be eager to share it. Will Cavill be cast? Who knows? He is a fan favorite, but I have a feeling they won’t be swayed that much by votes from the fans. They’ll probably settle on their own direction of what they want to do and go from there.
