A review of the 1966 low-budget cult superhero movie Rat Pfink A Boo Boo directed by Ray Dennis Steckler

Rat Pfink A Boo Boo 1966

With practically no budget, heroes wearing pajamas, along with a dash of rock and roll, writer/ director Ray Dennis Steckler creates one of the oddest entries in the superhero film genre.

What begins as a serious crime drama, the film dramatically does a complete turnaround half way in and becomes a silly superhero romp. A guy in a gorilla costume, a damsel in distress, a musical montage at the beach, backyard fights and the filmmakers crashing a town parade.

Steckler was said to have had a change of heart with his original story and rather than have the unwanted footage go to waste it was decided to just use it anyway.

The fact the title itself was a typo should be a sign this is going to be one crazy ride.

I’ve looked at quite a few superhero films in this series, and although it was one of the earliest I reviewed it’s still the strangest one so far. It’s really tough to beat.
