With Sean Connery stating he would never play James Bond again, filmmakers had had for the second time within five years to again find a new actor that could fill the role. They ultimately offered Roger Moore the license to kill.
As he started out the shadow of Connery still loomed over Moore’s performance and the films, but gradually more fantastical elements and Moore’s own deadpan humor would help define the newest interpretation of the character. Moore’s Bond became more of an English gentleman who happened to be a spy.
Moore would help guide the series through the 70’s and most of the 80’s, playing 007 seven times before finally leaving the role.
